Link Farm:Just what is it and why should it be avoided?Link farm refers to web pages built solely for the purpose of increasing the number of incoming links to a web site,in order to increase,link popularity and search engine rankings. Usually such farms require reciprocal linking from sites seeking listings.They are known for their spam tactics.Do not have anything to do with them as you are likely to be penalized or banned from the major search engines.If they link to you it's ok,but bear in mind that you will be penalised by the search engines if you link to them.Google considers them as bad neighborhood.So,avoid them. Anchor text: Text that you use within a html link,is referred to as anchor text.Ensure that the keywords for which you are trying to get a higher listing for,is reflected in your anchor text. Do not use the same anchor text for all your links.Using variations in your anchor text will improve your overall link strength. Back links:It is the backlinks or the number of quality sites linking back to you that plays a major role in ranking a site by the search engines.Specially true in case of Google and MSN.Again.Bear in mind that any site can link to yours and will carry weight,but that weight will be heavy if sites relevant to yours link in. Reciprocal links:You scratch my back..i will scratch yours.Put my link on your site..i will put yours on mine.Also called reciprocal linking or exchange of links.Google does not give much value to these types of links but it still carries a little bit of weight although not in gold.If you do want to exchange links,do not exchange with sites whose link pages contain hundreds of links.Ensure that the page you link to does not have a "nofollow tag".A quick way in IExplorer to check is to use the find tool and search for "nofollow"in the source of the page.
